PEPY Ride - “Adventurous Living. Responsible Giving.”
PEPY (Protect Earth, Protect Yourself) Ride supports rural Cambodian communities through greater educational opportunities, and encourages adventure travel that emphasizes social action, responsibility, and accountability!
Their educational, health, and environmental initiatives are supported through volunteer efforts and funds raised from tourism programs. This hybrid model provides sustainability and accountability. PEPY also bridges the worlds of international development and tourism, combining adventure travel with hands-on volunteer projects. The two-part mission offers “voluntourism” to short-term visitors while providing long-term support to ongoing educational programs in the local communities.
Daniela Papi
The idea for PEPY started as a plans for a cycle trip across Cambodia which Daniela and a friend hoped to do. They set up a website and recruited 4 others to join them as they rode from Thailand to Vietnam through the red dusty back roads of Cambodia to raise funds for educational projects. Realizing that she could do more than just raise the necessary funds to 'build a building', Daniela stayed. She has spent the last three years in Cambodia working in education and voluntourism.
As Executive Director of PEPY and founder/CEO of PEPY Tours, Daniela is active in the growing voluntourism movement. She believes that "it is the responsibility of the tour organization to ensure that actions of the volunteers has a positive impact on the communities and projects they set out to support." She is committed to running an organization that demonstrates the benefits to both the development projects and the travelers.
